The Update workgroup has two major mandates:

1. We are going to look at the existing RETS 1.X specification and strengthen it. The specification has just not been widely used due to its simplicity and does have several inconsistencies and errata that need to be addressed. There are also some record locking / data consistency problems that we need to enable the specification to support based on several current implementations of it. This scope covers both the transaction itself and the update specific metadata.
2. We have also been asked to bring forward all the improvements we make in the RETS 1.X specification to the RETS 2.0 specification so that there is an easy migration path for users.

We also have the following related mandates:

1. We have been asked to provide change specifications for presentation metadata (which, while not part of Update specifically, is very useful for Update). This will also be able to be used for Search.
